“MASQUERADE” on tour in China, Beijing

August 25, 26 and 27 — the “MASQUERADE” of the Vakhtangov Academic Theatre of Russia at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Beijing, China. The performance participates in the 2016 NCPA International Theatre Festival.

“Masquerade” after the famous play by Mikhail Lermontov is directed by Rimas Tuminas. The premiere night was in 2010. The creative group: Adomas Jacovskis (set designer), Maxim Obrezkov (costumes designer), Faustas Latenas (music). The Waltz by Aram Khachaturyan is included in the performance.

The leading performers: the National artist of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Knyazev, the Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Lidia Velezhova, Maria Volkova, Olga Nemogay, Leonid Bichevin.

The legendary composer Aram Khachaturyan wrote the Waltz especially for the Vakhtangov Theatre version of the “Masquerade” staged in 1941. The Waltz was devoted to the performer of Nina’s part Alla Kazanskaya.

Rimas Tuminas returned the Waltz and the “Masquerade” to the Vakhtangov Theatre stage in his own edition. The show is a constant participant of Russian and International festivals.

The Vakhtangov Theatre is invited to China for the second time. In December 2014 the show “DEMONS” by the marvelous theatre director Yuriy Lubimov participated in the 6th Theatre Olympics in Beijing. The performers of the theatre version of the Dostoevsky novel at an interview and discussion meeting were deeply impressed with the profound knowledge of the Russian classical literature of the Chinese audience.
