Anna Karenina (1983)

In 1983, Roman Viktyuk came to the theatre and put “Anna Karenina” by L.Tolstoy on the stage. In M. Roschin’s staging, the main thing was not the love story, but the moral plot of the novel. Anna Karenina was played by Ludmila Maksakova. From the very first minutes there was no serenity in her, but there was anxiety, presentiment of the coming fate and, in spite of everything, determination to accept it. This Anna was smart and openly sensual. The actress was not afraid to be down-to-earth, sometimes tough and desperate. Yu. Shlykov played Vronsky unusually, portraying him not as an elegant lover, but a rather common, good class of man. Karenin is perfectly played by Yu. Yakovlev, both stately haughtiness and pain of a loving man can be seen in him. And even in small roles, Dolly — I. Kupchenko, sweet, feminine, patient, and uncompromising and sincere Levin — E. Karelskikh, were really good.
