CHULIMSK Last Summer (2005)

The most touching play of Alexander Vampilov (“Elder Son”, “Duck Shooting”), “Last summer in Chulimsk” was put on the small stage of the Vakhtangov Theatre by young stage director Dmitry Petrun. A story of pure and tragic love which was not meant to be accompanied by simple and funny realias of a Soviet country depth.

Somewhere in the lost expanses of Siberia, in Chulimsk settlement lives a wonderful girl Valentina (Evgenia Kregdzhe / Elena Podkaminskaya) a girl of a pure and light soul. She works in a canteen and is secretly in love with the town investigator Shamanov (Evgeniy Knyazev) who often visits a local pharmacist Zinaida (Olga Tumaikina). A sudden love confession is a revelation to Shamanov who has already lost appreciation for life …
